Luke 13:10-17 - On the Sabbath, Jesus was teaching in a synagogue when He saw a woman who had been bent over for eighteen years, unable to straighten up. Jesus called her forward and declared that she was set free from her infirmity. He laid His hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.
The synagogue leader, however, became indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath. Jesus rebuked him, pointing out the hypocrisy of caring more for an ox or donkey on the Sabbath than for a daughter of Abraham who had been bound by Satan for so long.
This miracle reveals the compassion of Jesus, His authority over physical ailments, and His willingness to challenge religious legalism. Jesus emphasized that God's work of healing and restoration is always appropriate, regardless of the day of the week.
This miracle highlights both Jesus' divine power and His care for those who are suffering. The woman’s physical healing serves as a symbol of spiritual freedom, as Jesus not only healed her body but also set her free from the oppression that had bound her for so long.
